Naked Backpacker.

Never thought you'd here those two words combined, did ya? Well let me start from the beginning.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MATEO!

So for Matt's birthday (March 4 aka two weekends ago I know I know I'm behind) we wanted to go somewhere fun. We had been looking on RyanAir for cheap flights and randomly found a 30 Euro flight to the Canary Islands. Now, when the Universe miraculously offers you a 30 Euro (like $45) flight to an island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean near Africa, you DON'T say no. You accept immediately. So we did, and went there for a glorious 4 day long weekend.

FRIDAY - Arrived and somehow mastered the bus system. We got to out hostel which wasn't that bad. Not as nice as in Amsterdam, but hey, I'll take it. Then we almost immediately went to the beach. We were in Las Palmas on the island Gran Canaria. We were on the North side of the island so it was still a weeee bit chilly but absolutely beautiful in the sun. We didn't wear our swimsuits or anything, but it was just nice to be by the water.

I come back to find my friends like this. Beach bums.

Yeah, it's paradise.

For dinner the first night we went to this Lebanese restaurant. It was pretty good and something different.

SATURDAY - We had heard of about hiking near the volcano on the island and we decided that was pretty cool. After a lot of searching we found the bus to take us to the caldera. We ended up not being able to find the caldera, but we DID find some really awesome gardens that made the trip totally worth it.

Beautiful friends :)

Such a pretty view.

My friends are beasts and can do acroyoga.

After the gardens and some wandering, we went back to the beach to chill and relax. For dinner we got some cheap, sketchy tapas. Whatever, it was cheap. Later, we got all ready and went out for Matt's birthday! It was SO much fun. We knew where to go since the night before was slightly lame. Matt definitely had a good start to his birthday.

SUNDAY - This was Matt's actual birthday and boy did he spend it in the most awesome way. We took a 45 minute bus ride to the south side of the island where it was fancier and prettier. And OH MY GOODNESS was it beautiful! It was amazing. Most of the day was spent laying out, eating, and drinking. What could be better? Oh I know what. Doing ACROYOGA on the beach. I was jealous of my friends who were doing it the other day, so I decided to try it with the wonderful Natalie. She is amazing and seriously strong. She made my part much easier.

LOOK! I didn't know I could do anything like that.

Now, most of the beaches (actually I think all) are topless. Which, although from being a little shocking at first, aren't that bad. Except for that allllll the wrong people are topless. Just saying. Anyways, a few of our friends were pretty brave and ventured even further to the nude beach, not to participate, but to see what it was like. I don't know what exactly they were expecting, but they saw some interesting things. One of which was a naked guy doing yoga. Even better, there was a NAKED BACKPACKER. A backpack an shoes. That's its. WHAT?!?!? I would put a picture up to show you, but that might be a little bit inappropriate.

Later that night we were on the hunt for yummy sushi for Matt's birthday dinner. We found this place with nobody in it, but it seemed like it was just because it was a Sunday or something. We started to order and they didn't have sushi. It was like the main thing on their menu. But we ordered some other food anyways. I then looked at my plate and there was dirt. LEGITIMATE dirt and dust on my plate. NOT kosher. Also, the service was terrible. Now, you would think that all of these things would point towards bad food. But oh, were we wrong. I was skeptical. But when my General Tso's chicken came, I knew this was one of those really strange restaurants where everything is bad, except for the most important thing, the food. YUMMM. Good end to a good day.

MONDAY - We got up early to enjoy the beach some more and relax. I didn't get sunburned on Sunday, but I definitely got burned that morning. I guess sunscreen does actually work, huh?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my bestest friend/TB ever! I hope you had the most amazing birthday!
Great weekend with my best friends. And naked backpackers. Sounds about right.
